The Eagle Point Moth Ball is Back!
Get ready for an evening under the stars as we shine a light (literally!) on some of Alberta’s most fascinating nocturnal creatures. From live bats and snakes to moths and frogs, the Eagle Point Moth Ball is a celebration of the creatures that come alive when the sun goes down.
What You’ll Experience:
Live Presentations – Get up close with expert presenters and meet some of their real-life creature companions! This year’s lineup includes:
- Alberta Lepidopterists’ Guild – Learn about this group of moth and butterfly enthusiasts and their important work across the province. They will also be the folks helping you ID months that end up in the live moth traps along the Pembina Nordic Trails.
- Alberta Community Bats – Discover what bat life is all about for Horhay Bats, and meet Batsby, a 4-year-old Hoary Bat (health permitting). Fun fact: Did you know Hoary Bats are the only bat species known to have made it to Hawaii on their own?
- Alberta Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy (AARC) – Say hello to a LIVE tiger salamander, a wood frog, and maybe even a garter snake! Learn about Alberta’s native herptiles and how these rescued animals came to be part of the AARC family. Fun fact: Did you know that Wood frogs can survive being frozen solid?!
- Edmonton and Area Land Trust
- Native Bee Council
Please note registration is required for these presentations due to limited space.
After-Dark Adventures – As the sun sets, the fun continues!
- Campfire & Marshmallows
- Live Moth Trapping & Identification – Ever wonder how scientists study moths? Help local entomologists gently capture and identify these nighttime beauties.
- Bat Walks and Night Creature Walks from 10:15 PM – 11:00 PM and 11:05 PM – 11:50 PM (registration required)
