Built by Volunteers: The Heart Behind Eagle Point Blue Rapids Parks Council

,

In the Drayton Valley region, something special is happening and it’s not through large budgets or big campaigns, but through the steady and ongoing efforts of local volunteers.

The Eagle Point Blue Rapids Parks Council (EPBR) is an example of what can happen when people come together with a shared vision.

Behind the trails, events, and experiences that so many enjoy is a network of dedicated local clubs: the Pembina Nordic Club, Evergreen Shooting Club, Bowbenders Archery Club, Drayton Valley Horse Club, Brazeau ATV Club, Drayton Valley Paddling Club, Drayton Valley Rotary Cub and the West Central Riverboat Association.

Volunteers regularly step up to remove debris, protect wildlife habitat, and preserve the natural beauty of the trails and river system that runs through the region. It’s hard work, done behind the scenes, but it plays a critical role in keeping the area healthy for both recreation and the environment.

Together, these groups contribute countless volunteer hours each year to our area. They give their time hosting community events, teaching new skills, organizing meetings and administrative duties, and maintaining memberships.

Many of these same clubs also lead fundraising initiatives that give back locally. From organized rides and events to community-driven campaigns, the funds raised often go right back into the region, helping support local causes, improving shared spaces, and ensure future generations can enjoy the same opportunities.

That level of impact hasn’t gone unnoticed. Alberta Parks recently recognized EPBR as a “success story,” highlighting the strength of its volunteer driven model and the partnerships that make it possible.
At its core, EPBR is about people. It’s about neighbours showing up. Whether that’s clearing a trail, leading a program, cleaning up the river, or organizing an event that brings families together.

For those looking to be part of something meaningful, getting involved is simple. Supporting our local club through membership or volunteering time helps sustain these efforts and keeps the momentum going.

Whether it’s nature programing, family friendly events, or club led initiatives like horseback rides, paddling trips, archery, disc golf, mountain biking, hiking, ATV rides or riverboating, Eagle Point Blue Rapids Parks offer something for everyone.

As EPBR continues to grow, our mission remains the same. To enhance and protect the Eagle Point Provincial Park and the Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area by working collaboratively with our partners to implement innovative park planning, funding and management for the benefit and public enjoyment of current and future generations.

Because in Eagle Point and Blue Rapids, the outdoors isn’t just a place to visit. It’s something the community actively builds, protects, and takes pride in together.
