2026 Bird Count Kick Off!

May 6 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Hello Birds!

Our Hello Birds! Kick Off is  May 6th, 2026.

As the migratory birds return, Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council takes part in World Migratory Bird Day and Global Big Day, a worldwide celebration of birds and community science that invites people of all experience levels to participate in a global bird counting event. Join Eagle Point Staffers for a short presentation on how to make the most of your birding experiences with checklists and cool smartphone apps.  We’ll discuss birding ethics and big days!  Meet like minded people in the area, share your bird stories while enjoying snacks and refreshments!

We are excited to host a special guest speaker at this year’s kick off!

Javan Green, Wildlife Ecologist presents “Migratory Birds 101: Nests, Surveys, Protection, and More.”  Javan  will dive into the world of migratory birds, focusing on their many types of nests, the surveys used to identify them, and the regulations that protect them. With over 25 years as an avid birder and 14 years as a Professional Biologist, Javan Green will share his experience conducting surveys, locating hidden nests, and navigating provincial and federal legislation.
