We’ve got an Exciting Night planned for Nature Enthusiasts!
We’re hosting a free celebration of night creatures with special emphasis on moths, toads, bats and snakes!
Alberta Lepidopterists Guild, Alberta Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy and Alberta Community Bat Program will be joining us for a memorable evening! This free event is open to people of all ages who want to learn more about all the creatures we rarely see!
Location:
Pembina Nordic Centre, 7010 Twp 494, Eagle Point Provincial Park.
Date and Time
July 31, 2024 from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm (or 11:30 pm until late if the moths are really great).
Some of the activities we have planned:
- Discover how entomologists and amateur naturalists live trap moths!
- Help identify the moths we capture!
- Admire the stunning butterfly & moth displays presented by ALG!
- Attend the Alberta Community Bat Program presentation
- Check out the Moth Light & Sheet (all night) with ALG!
- Sign up for the Toad & Snake Walk with AARC from 9:30 to 10:30 pm!
- Meet a Live Bat!
- Meet the Creature (salamander & snake ) at AARC’s booth!
- Sign up for the Bat Walk with Cory from the Alberta Community Bat Program
- Visit with other participants around the campfire while toasting a marshmallow or two!
Evening Itinerary
- 7:00 to 7:30 pm – Introductions/Presentations
- 7:30 to 7:45 pm – Meet the Bat
- 7:45 to 8:00 pm – Meet the Salamander and Snake
- 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm – Open Moth Traps from the night before an ID moths
- 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm – Displays in the Outdoor Education Centre
- 9:00 – Moth Lights Turned On for the night
- 9:00 pm – Campfire & Marshmallows
- 9:30 to 10:30 pm – AARC toad walks
- 10:30 pm – Bat Walks
- 11:30 pm – If the moths are great, we stay late!
