Join the Eagle Point Team as we identify and count local bird species in Eagle Point Provincial Park, Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area and Buck Lake Provincial Recreation Area on May 4. Global Big Day is organized by The Cornell Lab and now boasts over 30,000 birders who take part! We are looking for volunteers who can identify some of our local birds, but we encourage novice birders and families to join us for a fun, outdoor excursion!
If you like birds but prefer to count the birds in your back yard, we’ll be happy to include backyard data with our count as well! Download the Bird Species List for Observers Version 2 here, and submit it to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 8 at 9:00 am. You can also call in your observations at 780-542-1932. Don’t forget to note your location!
Schedule: 7:00 am, May 4 at Willey West Campground in Eagle Point Provincial Park. Register and fan out throughout the campground, then follow us to several sites through-out the Parks System.
10:00 am, May 4 at Buck Lake’s Alder Flats Fish & Game Group Camp. Register or continue observations here.
Willey West Campground is located just off Highway 22, east of the Drayton Valley bridge. Watch for access signs and follow the road as it heads down the hill into the campsite.
Buck Lake Location: The Alder Flats Fish and Game Group Camp. From Highway 22 and Twp Rd 470, go east until you arrive at the lake. The group camp is on the left side of Twp Rd 470, bordering the lake.
If you can’t make 7:00 am and want to join us mid way through the day, contact Kathy at 780-542-1932 to details.
