The Voyageur Rendevous Canoe Race is a 23 day adventure will feature up to 26 canoe race teams from across the country celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday and bringing a rich piece of Canadian history back to life for all Canadians.
The race begins in Rocky Mountain House on July 1st and over the next 23 days will make it’s way to The Pas, Manitoba.
The second leg of the race will end be at the Willey West campground boat launch on July 2nd at about 2:00 PM. Stop by the campground to view the 25 foot canoes make their way to the finish line during this historical event, then stay for the festivities. The afternoon will feature a sprint canoe race at the Willey West boat launch, awards, entertainment and a chance to get up close to the 25 foot traditional northern canoes in celebration of our country’s Sesquicentennial.
The racers and their entourage will then make their way to the Mackenzie Conference Centre for supper, more entertainment and a chance to mingle with our local Drayton Valley and area spectators as well as visitors to the event. This is a community event so all are invited. Watch for more information about this special event in the weeks to come.
